Project Description

PROFIS - Step 4 Step: Selection and advising of international students at the Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg

Whereas the purpose of the first PROFIS project was to develop an internet-based self-assessment on the basis of requirements and needs analysis, conduct a computer-aided analysis of study progress, and subsequently offer a mentoring program in pilot courses of study, the second phase of the PROFIS program aims at improving the selection and admissions procedure as well as studying conditions for international students. Two concepts developed by other institutions have been adopted for this purpose: the „Concept for an Improved Study Success Rate“ of the University of Hamburg and the „Online Tutorials for International Students“ approach of the University of Potsdam. In a nutshell, the STEP 4 STEP concept encompasses the following three goals:

  1. Attracting excellent students through a qualitative selection procedure
  2. Supporting new students through field-specific online tutorials
  3. Realizing a comprehensive selection and advising concept for international students using the tools and methods developed in PROFIS I
