UniCard

The UniCard is an identity card which unites the functions of a library card, computer lab pass, and cafeteria debit card. It may also be used to gain access to certain buildings and rooms and as a debit card at all institutions run by the Office of Student Services. The following data is printed on the card:

• passport photo
• surname
• given name
• academic degree
• University Library account number.

The following information is also printed on UniCards for students:

• registration number
• date of expiration

The following information is saved on a mifare chip inside the card:

• registration number or staff reference number
• period of validity
• status (student, staff member, or visiting scholar)

The Freiburg UniCard is optional. Visiting professors and lecturers may obtain a card free of charge, but visiting scholars must pay a fee of 10 euros. The fee may be paid directly at the Cashier’s Office or by your host institute. Applications may be handed in to Ms. Kühnle. It is also necessary to include a passport photo.

Language Courses

The Language Learning Institute SLI, Universitätsstraße 5, organizes and provides conceptual support for the entire range of language courses for participatants from all fields of studies offered by the Faculties of Philology and Humanities. In addition, it offers technical language courses for students of all fields as well as „made-to-measure“ courses on request.

Moreover, several language schools in Freiburg which have no affiliations with the university also offer language courses.

By presenting a certificate from your host institute, you may obtain a user identification card in the independent learning area of the Language Learning Institute (Language Lab III, KG 1, room 1030) in order to gain access to the language labs and study a language independently. University Library

Every international scholar is free to use the University Library (UB) and apply for a library card (free of charge). The UniCard may also be used as a library card. If you need access to one of the departmental libraries, consult your advisor.

Cafeterias

Visiting scholars may eat in the cafeterias and cafes run by the Office of Student Services at guest prices (the highest prices). Visiting professors and lecturers pay employee prices (staff prices). Your price category is saved on your UniCard. In addition to the UniCard, you may also obtain a MensaCard (cafeteria debit card) in exchange for a 7 euro deposit. The MensaCard enables you to pay without cash at all cafeterias and cafes run by the Office of Student Services. You receive the 7 euros back when you return the card.

Internet Access

Die Serviceleistungen des Universitätsrechenzentrums (z.B. Internetzugang per WWW oder Mail, ReDI, RAS) stehen allen Einrichtungen und Mitgliedern der Universität in Lehre, Forschung und Verwaltung nach Anmeldung zur Verfügung. Der Antrag muss von der für den/die Mitarbeiter/In oder Gastwissenschaftler/In zuständigen leitenden Person des Instituts unterschrieben werden.
